Dear Parents/Guardians of 8th grade students,
Students in Billings Public Schools are privileged to have access to many exceptional resources for empowering our community’s youth to excel in their efforts to graduate high school with the knowledge, skills and attitudes to be college and career ready. One of our community’s greatest assets is the Billings Career Center, a supplemental high school setting available to students who attend high school in Billings Public Schools.
The mission of the Billings Career Center is to offer
multiple opportunities in vocational and technical education which can be paired with academic preparation at a student's home school. At the Career Center, you can develop employment skills, receive your high school diploma, and prepare for college all at the same time.
Students may begin attending classes at the Career Center as early as their 9th grade year. These earlier opportunities are more limited than they become by their 11th and 12th grade years, but we encourage all students to become fully aware of the opportunities that await them as they prepare to enter high school. Therefore, all 8th grade students in Billings Public Schools are taken on a tour of the Career Center.
Students are shown all of the areas of the Career Center and are introduced to the variety of classes that they offer. They get to see, firsthand, the facilities, hear from the teachers, and visit with current Career Center students about their experiences in order to gain a deeper understanding of all that the Career Center has to offer them in pursuit of their own future goals.
Each of the Billings Public Schools middle schools visits the Career Center on specified dates. Riverside Middle School’s 8th graders are scheduled to visit the Career Center in two separate groups on Tuesday, January 21, and Thursday, January 23. We will leave Riverside at approximately 8:35am and return at approximately 10:30am. Students will tour the Career Center on one of these dates only with staff from Riverside.
If you have questions about the tour or about the Career Center, please don’t hesitate to contact your child’s school counselor at the number below.
