“Prep for the Future” ACT Seminar for Billings Public High School Students At West High School Cafeteria 2201 St Johns Ave, Billings, MT (Enter through doors 5 & 6 at the rear of the building) January 30th & 31th, 2019 3:30pm to 6:00pm OR 6:30pm to 9:00pm The workshop is 5 hours in length and taught over two days. Students are asked to attend one of the workshop times on Monday and one of the workshop times on Tuesday. Only $75. To register for this seminar, please go to www.prepforthefuture.com.

 

ACT HUDDLES

ACT Huddles with ACT coach Ann Ellsworth. Cost is $200 for 4 sessions, includes all materials, group size 3-6 students, four 45 minute live online sessions. SOPHOMORES—HOBY

HOBY is a leadership camp where students from across the state meet to learn about the benefits of personal, group and community leadership.  Groups are composed of students from all parts of the state.  They spend 3 days learning about the value of community service, teamwork, and effective communication while having fun and learning what it means to be a leader.  Seminars run 3—4 days April – June, at a University in Montana.  The cost is $225-425.  A funding program is available.  Specific locations and dates will be posted November 13th on the HOBY site. See Mrs. Boone in the Counseling/Guidance office if you are interested.

ACT Academy--The learning platform was designed to help students pinpoint areas of academic weakness, improve their ACT scores, and master the core skills needed to prepare for success in college and career.

Students, teachers and parents are all able to set up a free account.

Governor and First Lady Youth Leadership Council

Students selected to serve on the Council will work to raise awareness of childhood hunger in their community, while at the same time engaging their peers in service projects intended to address the issue itself. Students will serve by both developing their individual leadership and organizing skills and providing a tangible benefit to their classrooms and communities

Students if you have volunteered over the last year, applications are being accepted for NASSP 2019 Prudential Spirit of Community Award.

You will be eligible to win:

-- $1,000 or more

-- a medallion,

-- an all expense paid trip with a parent or guardian to Washington, D.C.

This will take place next spring for four days of special recognition events.

BPS is having a Brawl of the Wild Food Drive to collect food for our school pantries.

We will have collection bins set up outside Nichole Sholley's office. This year, it is a

Cat vs Griz themed competition and competition.  Anything and everything helps a person in need.

A couple of quick notes:

·        The first team store will close on Sunday enabling the first order to be delivered

before the girls' soccer banquet on the 12th. 

·        It will reopen right away on Monday and be open for a full week after that so

 there is no rush to order this week!

·        An option for a scarf is being designed and we are hoping to have it be added

 to the team store on Saturday so that it can be purchased in the first order as well. 

·        The design is a bit difficult to see in the pictures so I've attached it below in a

format that should be a bit easier to see!

MSU Honors College will be hosting an event the evening of Tuesday, November 13th for any of your students, their parents/families to learn more about the wonderful opportunities available through the MSU Honors College. The event will start at 5:30pm at the Billings West High School cafeteria; 2201 St. Johns Avenue.  Students/families from grade 9 and above are welcome to meet with Dr. Ilse-Mari Lee.

NEWS FROM THE COUNSELING/GUIDANCE OFFICE

MSU Honors College

MSU Honors College will be hosting an event the evening of Tuesday, November 13th for any of your students, their parents/families to learn more about the wonderful opportunities available through the MSU Honors College. The event will start at 5:30pm at the Billings West High School cafeteria; 2201 St. Johns Avenue.  Students/families from grade 9 and above are welcome to meet with Dr. Ilse-Mari Lee.

SOPHOMORES—HOBY

HOBY is a leadership camp where students from across the state meet to learn about the benefits of personal, group and community leadership.  Groups are composed of students from all parts of the state.  They spend 3 days learning about the value of community service, teamwork, and effective communication while having fun and learning what it means to be a leader.  Seminars run 3—4 days April – June, at a University in Montana.  The cost is $225-425.  A funding program is available.  Specific locations and dates will be posted November 13th on the HOBY site. See Mrs. Boone in the Counseling/Guidance office if you are interested.

ACT prep for all students:

ACT Academy--The learning platform was designed to help students pinpoint areas of academic weakness, improve their ACT scores, and master the core skills needed to prepare for success in college and career.

Students, teachers and parents are all able to set up a free account.

Governor and First Lady Youth Leadership Council

Students selected to serve on the Council will work to raise awareness of childhood hunger in their community, while at the same time engaging their peers in service projects intended to address the issue itself. Students will serve by both developing their individual leadership and organizing skills and providing a tangible benefit to their classrooms and communities

Students if you have volunteered over the last year, applications are being accepted for NASSP 2019 Prudential Spirit of Community Award.

You will be eligible to win:

-- $1,000 or more

-- a medallion,

-- an all expense paid trip with a parent or guardian to Washington, D.C.

This will take place next spring for four days of special recognition events.

DRIVERS EDUCATION-REGISTER ONLINE NOW!

·        Registration for winter Drivers Ed is ONLINE.  The drivers' education office is located on the south side of Billings, not at Skyview.  Contact information is Joni at 281-5074.

 

·        ONLINE registration has begun and will continue until 3:00 pm October 31st 

·        To register please visit https://www.billingsschools.org/programs/drivers-education

               Click on the enrollment button under Skyview. 

·        Students must be born on or before May 26, 2004 in order to register for winter Drivers Ed. 

·        The class will run from Nov. 26, 2018 until Jan 30, 2019. 

·        A lottery drawing will be held to fill the class spots.

·        Students and parents will be notified no later than November 6 by EMAIL.    

·        If your name is drawn you will receive information on how and where to pay the fee of $265.00.

·        Payment is due no later than 3:00 pm November  14th
