Billings Multilingual Academy

Welcome to Billings Multilingual Academy

Billings Multilingual Academy (BMA) is a Billings Public Schools public charter school serving students in grades 6–12 and designed to meet the academic, linguistic, cultural, and social needs of multilingual and Indigenous students.

Located on the fourth floor of the Lincoln Center in Billings, BMA opened in fall 2024 with a commitment to supporting students and families while celebrating diversity, honoring cultural differences, and strengthening connections among students, families, schools, and the greater Billings community.

BMA recognizes language, culture, identity, and diversity as strengths. Our goal is to provide students with rigorous academic opportunities while creating an educational environment where their individual experiences and identities are valued.

Our Two Pathways

BMA offers two primary educational pathways: the Multilingual Pathway and the Indigenous Pathway. Although each pathway has a distinct focus, both are grounded in the belief that students' languages, cultures, identities, and experiences are assets that can strengthen learning and students' connections to school.

Multilingual Pathway
The Multilingual Pathway serves students who have been identified as English Language Learners and provides concentrated instruction in academic English alongside core academic content.

Students receive intentional support in developing the language necessary to participate successfully in increasingly rigorous academic environments. Instruction is designed to develop proficiency in reading, writing, speaking, and listening while students simultaneously progress in their academic coursework.

At BMA, our Multilingual Pathway students primarily receive instruction in English, mathematics, and social studies, along with specialized language and cultural opportunities associated with their pathway.

Indigenous Pathway
The Indigenous Pathway provides culturally responsive educational opportunities for Indigenous students and connects academic learning with Indigenous languages, histories, cultures, and identities.

The pathway currently includes Crow, Cheyenne, and Blackfeet language instruction, creating opportunities for students to engage with Indigenous languages and cultural knowledge as meaningful components of their educational experience.

Rather than approaching Indigenous culture and language as isolated topics, the pathway seeks to connect language, culture, identity, and academic learning while strengthening relationships among students, families, tribal communities, schools, and community partners.
