Principal's Message
Dear Washington Families,
Welcome to a brand new year! I hope you and your family had a relaxing and rejuvenating summer. I am extremely excited for the opportunity to serve as principal of Washington Elementary. Since the start of a school year means the beginning of many new and exciting things, I hope to answer some of your questions about the year in this letter as well as provide you with some insight into our school-wide expectations and goals.
Again, I feel extremely honored to be back at Washington Elementary as principal. Throughout my educational career, I taught fifth grade at Washington Elementary for seven years and fourth grade at Poly Drive Elementary for two years. In addition to being a teacher, I completed my Masters of Education in Educational Leadership from Montana State University. I have dreamed of being an educator since I was a fourth grader here in Billings, and I am beyond fortunate to do what I love each and every day. I promise to lead with this passion and excitement, and I hope your student also develops a love for learning that lasts a lifetime.
Here at Washington Elementary, we have an incredibly talented and passionate staff that is dedicated to helping students be successful. All that we do as a school staff is focused on our school mission and vision statements. The mission of Washington Elementary is to provide an engaging, high-quality, innovative educational experience where students feel valued and secure in order to develop into accountable learners. Our vision at Washington Elementary is to guide students in becoming respectful, productive community members who dream big and recognize their unlimited potential.
Our school expectations are simple, yet significant. Students at Washington Elementary will be safe, they will be respectful, and they will be responsible. Having high academic expectations for students can only be achieved when students are also held to high behavioral expectations. We place value in modeling and teaching students positive behavior practices as this serves to their benefit both now and in the future. Students, staff, and families deserve to be a part of a school community where the culture is safe, respectful, and solution-oriented. We at Washington Elementary want school to be a place where you and your child are excited to belong.
Please know my door is always open and I value your time and involvement in making Washington Elementary successful. If you have any questions or concerns, do not hesitate to reach out. Again, thank you for your continued support of our school, students, and staff.
Your Partner in Education,
Mr. Josh Monson
Principal
