Seizure First Aid
Billings Public Schools, in order to improve student safety, has developed a protocol for administration of emergency seizure meds in accordance with School Policy 3416. This policy allows a BPS Registered Nurse to provide training annually to all designated personnel authorized to administer emergency seizure medications. The training includes the following: recognition of signs and symptoms of different types of seizure activity, indications for the administration of multiple types of emergency seizure treatments, the administration technique, and when there is a need for immediate access to a certified emergency responder.
911 will always be called for any new seizure activity, convulsive seizure lasting longer than 5 continuous minutes or requiring prescribed emergency seizure medication in a person with diagnosed seizures.
