Substitute Teaching
The Billings Public School District provides a quality education for all students every day whether the classroom teacher is present or a substitute teacher is in the classroom. We welcome your employment application for this critical position to assist students with meeting their educational goals. It is important that the substitute carry out all duties assigned to facilitate the instructional process and provide a safe, educational, and productive environment in the classroom.

Eligibility to Substitute Teach
Applicants are required to have completed a minimum of sixty college semester credits.
Requirements
- A completed substitute teacher application packet.
- College transcripts verifying at least sixty semester credits. Copies are acceptable.
- Verification of a tuberculin skin test or chest x-ray within the past year to include the date of the test, results, and signature of licensed professional.
- Completion of substitute teacher orientation training (details below).

Rate of Pay
Substitute teachers not licensed to teach in Montana will receive $65.00/day.
Substitute teachers with a current Montana Educator License will receive $70.00/day.
Benefits
Substitute teachers are eligible to participate in the Montana Teachers Retirement System (TRS). After substitute teaching 210 work hours, membership in TRS is required. Substitute teachers are not eligible for Billings Public Schools health insurance benefits.
Substitute Teacher Orientation Training Information
Non-Certified Substitute Teachers are those who do not hold a Montana teaching license. Non-Certified Subsitute Teachers are required to attend a 3 1/2-hour training course. The training is held from 8:30 am to 12:00 pm in the Board Room at the Lincoln Center. Please bring your completed application packet with you. Montana Teachers Retirement (TRS) Forms 
**You must choose an option, either to be a member of TRS or not to be a member of TRS. See details below.**
A substitute teacher may elect to be a member of TRS on the first day of employment. If you choose this option you must fill out all four of the following forms with your application. Click here for further instructions.
If you choose not to become a member of TRS on your first day of employment, you will need to complete the following:
*You will be required to become a member of TRS once you have completed 210 hours of Substitute Teaching in any fiscal year. Background Check Forms 
Only applicants with a background check on file at any Montana University, College, or the Office of Public Instruction (processed within the last year) need to complete the Redissemination Form. All applicants must complete the Criminal Background Application.
