General Information C.A.R.E. Academy ("Children's After-school Recreation and Education" Academy) is a before-and-after school program entirely funded by parent-paid tuition. The goal of the program, which commenced in the Fall of 2007, is to provide a safe place for students in their own schools during "out of school time." The program includes opportunities for homework help, fun physical activities, hands-on enrichment activities, and some time to kick-back and relax over board games with friends.
Locations For the 2008-09 school year, CARE will be located at the following elementary schools: Big Sky, Boulder, McKinley and Meadowlark. We also bus primary age children to our sites from the following schools: Arrowhead, Broadwater, Central Heights, Highland, and Rose Park.
Partners The children benefit from the special programs brought to CARE from community partners such as First Tee of Montana, Billings Clinic, ExxonMobil Corporation, 4-H, Master Gardeners, Valley Health Care Center, Venture Theater, and the Yellowstone Art Museum.
Age-Range The program is available to K-6th grade students at the schools where it is held. The staff will provide age-specific activities for their participants, and will recognize and honor the special, age-appropriate care necessary for young children.
J.U.M.P. JUMP (Jump-up-Move-Play) is a physical activity program that is a part of CARE Academy, and was developed through a grant from ExxonMobil Corporation. Children are provided with fun, engaging, daily play opportunities that get them up and moving. They are rewarded for the time they spend in movement with special prizes and treats donated by local area businesses. The overall goal of JUMP is a restoration of the joy of childhood play, and a subsequent reduction of the risk of developing childhood obesity.
Summer Program CARE Academy had its first all-summer line-up of educational and fun activities in 2008 at Meadowlark Elementary. The new program provided exciting and enriching experiences that include field trips and guest presenters. Summer highlights included: tie-dyeing; collage and crafts; golf; field trips to places like ZooMontana, Lake Elmo and Chief Plenty Coups State Park; hiking; treasure hunts; writing and puppet shows; plus regular spray park and pool trips, daily fun physical activities, and time to relax and play with friends.
Contact CARE Academy is a service of love provided to our children and their parents. Our goal is the complete satisfaction of those we serve. If you have any questions, suggestions, comments or ideas for improvement of the program, please contact the Site Coordinator at your child's CARE site during the academic year, or call the Director, Russell White, at 247-3851.
